My Current Skin Care Regimen
Due to some medical issues during Christmas time, my face began to backslide into the hell of cystic acne, tons of blackheads and huge pores. Top this off with a pretty extreme winter season, and things have not been all that fun. However, I seem to be on the mend (at least where my face is concerned), so here’s a list of my current skin care regimen.
Shea Moisture African Black Soap
I picked this soap up at my local pharmacy when I ran out of my last facial cleanser, and have been using it for both my body and face for months. Having used a more “traditional” type of African black soap while living in Brooklyn, I know from experience that the ingredients can help my extremely oil and acne prone skin. In comparison to the soap I used to use (Dudu Osun), this product did not live up to what I remember. While my face does feel clean after using it, I am well aware that “real” African Black soap is not actually black. If you click on the link to Dudu Osun above, you’ll see that the “real” thing is usually a murky, grey brown color. I’ve got a little bit left of my original bar to use, but once it’s finished, I fully intend to purchase some more Dudu Osun!
Dickinson’s Enhanced Witch Hazel Alcohol Free Hydrating Toner
Now this product I absolutely love!! This toner helps remove the small amount of residue left over from the black soap. Other than the Michael Todd Blue Green Algae (click on the link to check it out), this is my favorite toner. After using this product, my skin feels plump, clean and moisturized. This mask is also extremely effective at removing the residue left from a clay mask. Since I use clay masks quite often (especially in warmer weather), this toner helps me feel that I’ve left nothing behind.
Acne.org Treatment (2.5% Benzoyl Peroxide)
I began using the complete Acne.org regimen several years ago, and had a lot of success with it. However, after a while my skin rebelled, and I had to leave it alone for a while. Now I use the benzoyl peroxide treatment at night to help rid myself of both cystic acne and blackheads. The best thing about this product is that I can usually remove my blackheads without causing too much damage to my skin. In fact, most of the times my blackheads seem to loosen up and fall out by themselves! I highly recommend this regimen to anyone suffering from cystic acne! Check out my review for this regimen that I filmed many moons ago on my YouTube channel!
Egyptian Magic All Purpose Skin Cream
Last, but certainly not least is Egyptian Magic All Purpose Cream as my moisturizer. I only use this all natural compound when my skin feels excessively dry, especially around my lips. You’re probably thinking it seems dumb to use this when I already have oily skin, but my skin loves it! I also use this product for any dryness on my body that regular lotion can’t fix.
So there you have it! My current skin care regimen laid out from top to bottom, and hopefully this was an entertaining read!
